Mr. Degan is the Managing Partner of Degan, Blanchard & Nash. Mr. Degan was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and attended both the University of Louisiana and the University of New Orleans, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. Mr. Degan then attended Tulane University School of Law, where he received a Juris Doctor degree.

Mr. Degan also has over thirty-five years of experience in the handling of defense litigation, as well as coverage litigation and counseling. He has handled coverage issues arising in the context of professional liability, commercial liability, marine, environmental, toxic tort, employers’ liability, property, builders risk, casualty, construction defect, excess liability, and numerous other types of claims. Mr. Degan has represented clients in major coverage disputes in jurisdictions throughout the country for both domestic and London-based insurers. Mr. Degan has extensive experience in the handling of Bad Faith litigation, experience which necessarily includes the defense of many types of bad faith exposures that arise over insurance coverage disputes. Mr. Degan also has litigated property and casualty cases arising in the context of automobile liability (both personal and commercial), general liability claims, premises liability, personal lines, construction defect, third-party property disputes, contractual liability, municipality, product liability, homeowners, employment practices, medical malpractice, and many other types of claims.

Mr. Degan has been named “Best Lawyer” by Best Lawyers magazine, which is one of the oldest and most respected peer-review publications in the legal profession. He was also named a “Super Lawyer” by Super Lawyers for his achievements in Civil Litigation Defense and Insurance Coverage Defense. Mr. Degan was also named as one of New Orleans’ “Top Lawyers” in New Orleans Magazine, and was named to Louisiana’s Top Rated Lawyers by ALM, the nation’s largest publisher of legal media. Mr. Degan is a former editor of the London-based International Insurance Law Review. He has taught classes in Marine, Property, Energy, Bad Faith, Health and Accident, and insurance coverage matters, as well as having drafted various insurance policies, which are in use by major carriers, and is a frequent speaker at continuing education seminars across the country. Mr. Degan is also the Chair of the ABA Section of Litigation Admiralty Litigation Committee.

Mr. Degan is a member of the Louisiana, New Orleans, Federal and American Bar Associations, and is the Chair of the American Bar Association Section of Litigation Admiralty Committee. He is also a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States, Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute and Claims & Litigation Management Alliance. He is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Louisiana, the Eastern Federal District in Texas, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits.
